Notice of Closure

With deep regret, the Officers of South Western Obstetrical & Gynaecological Society (SWOGS) have had to make the difficult decision to close the Society from 1st January 2024.

Established in 1949 in Bristol, SWOGS has been one of the longest lasting O&G Societies in the UK and over the years has sought to educate, inform and introduce colleagues to each other at the annual meeting.  In total, thousands of participants have attended and the SWOGS Meeting became renowned for its friendliness as well as providing an opportunity for trainees to present their abstract material.  It was a joy to celebrate the 70th anniversary of SWOGS in 2019.

Since the inception of SWOGS, the world of O&G has changed and a general meeting has become less relevant.  Against the backdrop of shrinking delegate numbers and increased costs, the SWOGS Meeting is no longer viable.  This is very sad for those who have enjoyed the SWOGS Meeting but the future lies in sub specialties and meetings specifically focussed around those.

If you have been renewing your SWOGS Membership by standing order, you will be contacted as regards this.

We sincerely thank those who have supported SWOGS over the years: previous Officers, Local Organising Committees, Speakers, Exhibitors and Sponsors, Delegates and Members.  What has been achieved is to be celebrated and remembered with fondness.
